  • Scare Crew Positions: Find Your Fit

    Scare Actors:

    Role Description: As a scare actor, you'll be the heartbeat of our haunted hayride, bringing both the fun and the fright to life. We offer a unique experience with our daytime rides, which are Halloween-themed and fun for all ages, and our nighttime rides, which deliver true scares. We encourage our scare actors to participate in both to fully immerse themselves in the Halloween spirit and diversify their experience.

    Responsibilities:

    • Perform in character throughout the event, adapting your energy and style to suit both the fun daytime rides and the terrifying nighttime rides.
    • Interact with guests in a friendly, engaging manner during the day, and in a spine-chilling, thrilling way at night.
    • Participate in rehearsals and training sessions to perfect your scare techniques.
    • Help with costume and makeup preparation.

    Skills Needed:

      • Acting skills and the ability to stay in character.
      • Creativity and enthusiasm for Halloween.
      • Good physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions.

    Set Designers:

    Role Description: Set designers play a crucial role in creating the immersive environments that define our haunted hayride. You'll design and construct sets that transport guests into a world of Halloween fun during the day and spine-chilling fright at night.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and build sets that fit the theme and vision of both the daytime and nighttime rides.
    • Source and create props to enhance the overall atmosphere.
    • Work with lighting and sound technicians to achieve the desired effects.
    • Ensure all sets are safe and stable for both actors and guests.

    Safety Team

    Role Description:
    The safety team helps maintain a controlled and secure environment for both guests and staff. You’ll monitor activity, stay aware of what’s happening across the property, and help de-escalate situations when needed to keep things safe, calm, and running smoothly.

    Team members may be in Festive Farmstead attire, maintaining a more visible role, while others may be in costume, acting as a character presence while still staying alert and aware. Both approaches help create a fun and safe atmosphere for guests.

    This team may also assist with basic first aid needs, such as minor injuries, and document incidents as they occur.

    Responsibilities:

    • Monitor guest areas for safety concerns and overall flow.
    • Maintain a visible presence in waiting and activity areas.
    • Respond to situations calmly and appropriately.
    • Enforce basic rules to keep the environment safe and enjoyable.
    • Communicate with team members and leadership as needed.
    • Assist with handling incidents or guiding guests when issues arise.
    • Provide basic first aid (such as band-aids) when needed.
    • Complete simple incident reports for injuries or situations.

    Skills Needed:

    • Strong awareness and attention to surroundings.
    • Ability to stay calm and think clearly under pressure.
    • Good judgment and decision-making.

    Area Lead:

    Role Description:
    Area Leads take on a leadership role within specific sections of the attraction. You’ll help manage a group of scare actors, keep your area running smoothly, and ensure both safety and performance standards are being followed.

    This is a hands-on role. You’ll still be in costume and part of the experience, while also keeping an eye on your area and supporting the team around you.

    Responsibilities:

    • Oversee a designated section of the attraction.
    • Support and guide scare actors in your area.
    • Ensure actors are following rules, safety guidelines, and performance expectations.
    • Help maintain energy, pacing, and consistency within your zone.
    • Communicate with the Scare Crew Manager and report any issues.
    • Step in to assist wherever needed within your area.

    Skills Needed:

    • Leadership and reliability.
    • Strong awareness and ability to manage a group.
    • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to stay in character while also staying aware of operations.

    Puppeteer:

    Role Description:
    Bring the creatures of Festive Farmstead to life. As a Puppeteer, you’ll operate wearable creatures, puppets, and interactive props throughout the trail. Some moments happen from the shadows, while others put you right in the action. Your timing, movement, and creativity help turn scenes into memorable experiences for guests.

    This role blends performance and prop control, requiring coordination, awareness, and the ability to stay in character while managing effects and movement.

    Responsibilities:

    • Operate wearable creatures, puppets, and interactive props.
    • Trigger or control effects at the right moment to enhance scenes.
    • Perform in character while managing movement and timing.
    • Work alongside scare actors to create coordinated scares.
    • Reset and prepare props between groups.
    • Maintain awareness of surroundings for safety and timing.

    Support Staff:

    (Front end / Hospitality)

    Role Description: Support staff are the backbone of our haunted hayride, ensuring smooth operations from start to finish. You'll play a vital role in enhancing the guest experience during both our daytime and nighttime rides, helping to create a seamless and enjoyable event for all.

    Responsibilities:

    • Assist with the guest check-in processes.
    • Manage crowd control to ensure guest safety and enjoyment.
    • Provide information and assistance to guests as needed.
    • Help with the setup, maintenance, and breakdown of attractions and sets.

    Skills Needed:

    • Strong communication and customer service skills.
    • Ability to multitask and handle stressful situations calmly.
    • Organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Costume and

    Makeup Artists:

    Role Description: As a costume and makeup artist, you'll have the creative task of transforming our scare actors into both friendly Halloween characters for the daytime rides and terrifying creatures for the nighttime rides. Your artistic skills will be essential in creating a visually stunning and immersive experience for our guests.

    Responsibilities:

    • Design and apply makeup that enhances the scare actors' appearances for both types of rides.
    • Assist with costume selection, fitting, and maintenance.
    • Collaborate with actors to create unique and horrifying looks for nighttime rides and fun, themed looks for daytime rides.
    • Maintain an organized and clean workspace.

    Tractor Driver:

    Role Description:
    Tractor drivers are responsible for safely operating the hayride and guiding guests through the experience. You play a key role in keeping the event running on time while ensuring a smooth and safe ride from start to finish.

    The number of tractors running will adjust based on guest demand. On busy nights, multiple tractors may run continuously. During slower periods, fewer tractors may be needed. When not actively driving, you’ll step into other roles to support the team and keep the event moving efficiently.

    Responsibilities:

    • Operate tractors to pull hayride wagons along the designated route.
    • Follow all safety procedures and stay alert to surroundings at all times.
    • Maintain proper spacing and pacing between ride groups.
    • Communicate with staff to keep operations running smoothly.
    • Assist with loading and unloading guests when needed.
    • Support other areas of the event when additional tractors are not needed.

    Skills Needed:

    • Ability to operate equipment or willingness to learn.
    • Strong awareness of safety and surroundings.

    Parking Lot &

    Traffic Team:

    Role Description:
    The parking and traffic team manages vehicle flow and helps guests arrive and leave safely. You’ll guide drivers, keep things organized, and create a smooth experience from the moment guests arrive to when they head out.

    This role is fast-paced during peak times and requires clear communication and awareness. You’ll be working outdoors and coordinating closely with other staff to keep everything moving efficiently.

    Responsibilities:

    • Direct vehicles into parking areas safely and efficiently.
    • Manage traffic flow during busy arrival and exit times.
    • Communicate clearly with drivers and other staff.
    • Monitor parking areas to keep things organized and safe.
    • Assist guests with directions and general questions.
    • Help adjust traffic flow as needed based on crowd size and conditions.

    Skills Needed:

    • Clear communication and confidence directing people.

    Once you’ve completed Monster School, you’ll be ready to jump in and get involved. Some roles will begin earlier in the season to help with building and setup, while others will focus on preparing for opening night.

    In the time leading up to opening, there will be opportunities to learn your role, get comfortable in your area, and help bring everything together.

    All crew are encouraged to help spread the word and promote Festive Farmstead’s Haunted Hayride. From daytime rides to full nighttime scares, everyone plays a part in creating the experience and making the event a success.
